On June 26, 2002, the Edwards Aquifer test well fell to 649.7 feet and Stage I water conservation began.
On June 29, heavy rain began with the Friedrich area receiving about 30 inches by July 9th and the test well rose 35 feet. The water restrictions were removed on July 27, 2002.
For Friedrich, the heavy rain meant water flow from Friedrich springs. This water fills the creek bed that runs along the southern segment of the Main Loop trail. Just east of the loop, the creek tumbles over this four-foot waterfall. |

The creek continues on downhill along the water trail. At one point, you can see water flowing out of a small cave (about one foot high) to the left of the trail. Prior owners of the park land placed a series of small dams in the creek bed along the Water Trail. After heavy rains this becomes a series of very pleasant small waterfalls. If you have never hiked Friedrich after a heavy rainstorm, please come visit and see a different face of the park. |
