Emilie and Albert Friedrich Wilderness Park and Crownridge Canyon Natural Area are jewels of nature in the midst of rapidly developing northwest Bexar County. They provide a refuge for native species and an opportunity for visitors to experience the sights, sounds, and scents of nature in a landscape of creeks, springs, hilltops, and wooded canyons. These pristine properties also contribute to the protection of quality and quantity of water entering the Edwards Aquifer.

The Friends of Friedrich Wilderness Park is a volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 1989 to support the preserve, which occupies land donated to the City of San Antonio in 1973. We are authorized, through a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of San Antonio, to work in partnership with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, Natural Areas Division to promote conservation and preservation of this property. Since our inception, Friedrich has grown from 230 to almost 600 acres, and in 2003 our group expanded our oversight role to include the adjacent 200-acre Crownridge Canyon Natural Area.
